Hillary's Husband is a Better Liar
OK, just watch this and tell me that Obama isn’t lying. Watch him stumble and try to explain his way out of this mess.
You mean you’ve been attending this guy’s church for nearly 20 years and you had no idea this guy was so incendiary?
At least Clinton was a believable liar. Talk radio hosts (like Hannity, including on his TV show) have been covering this issue for months. Obama didn’t publicly denounce this stuff until the major media outlets began covering it.
Give me a break.
The good news? Right now Zogby has McCain leading Clinton or Obama, when factoring Nader into the race. Should be a fun seven months.
Derek,
Obama was trying to provide context to the situation with a partisan hack trying to shove him into a corner. I think any of us in that situation would have stammered and sought to find a healthy place in that conversation…especially when we’re on national
TV.
And I’m interested in knowing if you’ve listened to Rev. Wright’s sermons extensively, especially the ones in question. As Christians, when you and I listen to/watch some of those deemed inflammatory by pagan Americans, we should nod our heads along with more than a few of them; among the, the “God damn America” sermon. Wright is telling the truth in that sermon. Period. From a Christian perspective.
And he’s a black man who grew up in the heart of the civil rights movement, who experienced Jim Crow laws and subhuman treatment firsthand. To suggest that he doesn’t have a right to say challenging things about the state of race in our country is naive to say the least.
If I were Obama, I’d defend Wright’s comments as sharp but mostly true, but I’m not running for president as he is, and politics today is about 10-second soundbites and hot-button issues, not civilized discourse on complex issues. So Obama has to make a statement to pacify lazy-minded people who will vote for him or not because he wears an American flag lapel-pin or not.
Of course he stammered. That’s not the point. The point is that he was lying. Saying that he hadn’t seen anything like that. He’s more or less admitted that he knew of some of those things since this news interview.
Yeah, I’ve heard some of the context surrounding the “God damn America” sermon. Funny thing is that Dobson got clammered for more or less the same comment – that God might be punishing America for her sin. I don’t necessarily disagree with that general idea. But that sermon also barely touches the surface of what Wright represents.
The problems with Wright go much deeper. Not in a civil rights way but in many ways very racist themselves. If a white pastor was saying almost the exact same things it’d be considered abhorrent. For a “post-racial” candidate to even be in the midst of such stuff is reveals what a lie the “post-racial” label is.
There’s a huge double-standard here. Surely you must see it.
The thing is, I believe Obama was at that church only for political expediency. And it’s only going to continue to haunt him. The only other alternative is worse – that he’s bought into this church’s focus on black power. All of this is revealing more about Obama than I believe most people realize (being the lazy-minded folks they are).
